As the revolutionairy movement of God we want to
We seem to have far too many sheep and not enough good sheppherds in the world.
A leader of mine recently said "I give people jobs to do but in a little bit they don't seem to be doing them."
Of course, I thought, you are trying to get people to follow your agenda in a top-down kind of way. The biblical model seems to be to release and equip people into THEIR gifting and calling given by God and not by ourselves.
Of course some minimal requirements must be present before we can support and release. The first and foremost would be a willingness to serve the good of the group above and beyond personal wants and desires. If someone is really serving themselves instead of others then they cannot be a servant leader. If they really just want people to follow them (instead of God) and stroke & please them (instead of God) then that type of 'leader' disqualifies themselves.
If a potential leader wants to use the leadership to push thier own pet agenda or doctrine which is contrary to the church or group then that too is self-serving rather than other serving. EDIT: or rather differentness is not necessarily any more selfish than the parent church's agenda. Each must be judged seperately as to whether they are self-serving or God&others-serving. If we insist that everyone follow OUR agenda then we are limiting and suppressing true leadership potential.
